Derrick Williamson is a Member at Spilman Thomas & Battle and serves as the Managing Member of the firm’s Greater Harrisburg, PA, office. With over 30 years of experience in Public Utility and Energy Law, Derrick primarily represents large commercial, manufacturing, industrial, and institutional consumers of electricity and natural gas before state and federal utility/energy commissions and appellate courts. He also advises clients on utility service negotiation and procurement, on-site generation, demand response, and renewable energy procurement.
Derrick is the Executive Director of the West Virginia Energy Users Group, where he collaborates with the Chair and Vice Chair to shape energy rates and public policy on behalf of the organization’s members.
A summa cum laude graduate of the University of Maryland (Phi Beta Kappa) and Duke University School of Law (Research Editor for the Duke Environmental Law & Policy Forum), Derrick has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for energy law multiple times and was named Best Lawyers’ Energy Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Harrisburg, PA, in both 2016 and 2020.
Derrick also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law, where he teaches Administrative Law and Energy Law & Policy.
A Veteran of the United States Army, Derrick is committed to supporting veterans and advancing diversity initiatives within the legal field. He holds roles on the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Equal Professional Opportunity Committee of the Dauphin County Bar Association.
